FindLocalBids ("we", "us") helps homeowners collect estimates for home projects from local contractors. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. Questions? Email hello@findlocalbids.com.
Information we collect
From homeowners: your email address (your account identity — we never use passwords), and any name, phone number, project details, photos, and location you provide when posting a project or saving a profile.
About contractors: business name, and where available a contact email, phone, website, address, and public ratings. This comes from public sources (including the Google Places API) and from information a contractor submits when responding to an invitation.
Automatically: a session cookie to keep you signed in after you use a magic link, plus standard server logs.
How we use it
To operate the service: create your account, find and invite local contractors, relay your questions and their estimates on your project page, process payments, and send transactional and notification emails. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not sell homeowner project details as "leads".
Sealed estimates
Estimate dollar amounts are visible only to the homeowner who owns the project. Invited contractors can see who else is bidding, but never each other's numbers.
Service providers we share with
We use trusted processors solely to run the service: Stripe (payments — we never store full card details), Resend (outbound email), the Google Places API (finding local businesses), OpenAI (to draft invitation text and extract a public contact email from a contractor's website), and Cloudflare (hosting, storage, and email routing). These providers process data only as needed to provide their service to us.
Contractor outreach & opt-out
When a homeowner posts a project, we email a small number of relevant local contractors an invitation to bid, using publicly available business contact information. Every such email includes an unsubscribe link and our mailing address. Unsubscribing stops future invitations to that address.
Data retention & security
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations, then delete or anonymize it. We use reasonable technical measures to protect it, though no method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by emailing hello@findlocalbids.com. We handle personal information in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA).
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
